Our campsite was literally about 15 feet from the Appalachian trail. We walked on it for a little ways. We met a man from Ohio who is hiking the entire trail from Georgia to Maine. He started on March 18th and hopes to finish by the middle of OCTOBER!!! It's about 2100 miles. Crazy! I offered him food but he said he was fine. There are shelters for all the hikers along the trail. He says he's been hiking with a man from Germany and there are hundreds of people on the trail. Wow!
Luke found that orange little guy in the forest. We kept him for a while and released him.
We were cooking peach cobbler for dessert in the Dutch oven when it started pouring rain on us!! I mean downpour in a matter of minutes. Eric moved it and the coals under the picnic table but the water pooled up around and under the coals and put them out. It was a little underdone but no one complained and we ate the whole thing.
I remember when we were a little family -- like when the two older boys were little -- and we'd make Dutch oven dessert we'd have so much left over we'd share with other campers or eat it for breakfast the next morning. Now we polish off the entire 12" Dutch oven! :)
