We took the ferry out to the Statue of Liberty. The kids liked the ride and wanted to be up on the top of the boat (out in the sun) to have the best views. It was hot that day and I would've be happy to sit down below. ;). Since you have to reserve tickets to go up I the statue 6 months in advance, we didn't have any. So we opted to go to Ellis island first and stop to see Lady Liberty if there was time after that.
